Raising and lowering the flags each day is an important part of the role of being a Student Leader at Edney. This year our student leaders noticed that the flags were starting to look a little worse for wear and decided to write to Trish Cook MP, Federal Member for Bullwinkel, to ask if he could provide us with new Australian, Western Australian, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander flags. On Thursday 25th of September 2025, Mrs Cook, along with Sue Littleton MP, Member for Bullwinkel, presented our Student Leaders with 4 brand new flags.

On the 29th of April, Mr Scott Northover, a former Army Veteran, came to Edney to teach the Student Leaders the most respectful way to deal with our flags. He presented to the students an overview on the Australian Flag, the history behind it and the protocols and processes around handling the flag with dignity and respect.

It was an interesting and interactive session and with all the information presented, Scott managed to put in some quiz questions that the students were confident to answer. The students engaged with a practical demonstration on raising, lowering and folding the flags. It finished on raising the flags with an understanding of the “order of precedence” and that all flags should flow freely and from the top.
